Q:  I have come here far from our home to study, but I feel lonely. I have friends. Still, I feel something is missing. What should I do?

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

You have asked the right question. How many of you feel lonely here? Raise your hands. (Many in the audience raise their hands). So many of you are feeling lonely? Then, you definitely must do the Happiness Program. Meditate and work towards eliminating the loneliness of others. If so many people are feeling lonely, then why don't you get together and talk to each other? That will bring you a great sense of belongingness.

Understand one thing, as long as you are working towards building a career, don't get into developing any long-term relationships. If you fall in love with someone, then your studies will suffer. You are young right now. First, make a strong career for yourself, and then you will get good friends and company. If you have a weak career, then your friend circle will also be similar. While you are here, focus completely on your career, and keep celebrating, participating in events, music, and dance.

All those of you who are from outstation, exhibit your talent, your regional dance, music, and drama collectively. We can have a national cultural festival here. There is so much talent here, which comes from far away; you can really spread and share what you have with others. If you do yoga and meditation, it will eliminate your loneliness, and you will have a sense of belongingness.

I travel to so many places in the world. I never feel that I have come to someone else’s place. Wherever I go, I become one with them. Similarly, you have come here, see what you can learn from this place. If you go to see, Kota provides for food, shelter, clothes, and enthusiasm. In every house in India, there is a stone from Kota. People wear clothes made in Kota and eat kachoris (fried, stuffed food) from Kota.

Wha is fear?

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Every seed has a membrane around it. That shell is there to protect the seed, but when you soak the seed in water, at some point the membrane breaks and the sprout come out of it. In the same way, fear is a mechanism around the life to protect it; at the same time, there is a way to go out of it.

If you see, very young kids, they don’t have fear when the mother is taking care of them. But when a kid starts walking on its own, then he looks around here and there very carefully. So, fear comes around that time, and it disappears when the mind or the intellect get mature. A mature intellect has no fear.

Dedication and commitment

Just like you run out of fuel in the car and you have to refill it again and again, in the same way your dedication and commitment runs out in the course of time and it needs constant renewal!

You have to dedicate and rededicate again and again.

Often people take their dedication for granted and then the mind starts demanding or complaining. When dedication is not complete, it leads to grumbling and complaints.

Total dedication brings enormous enthusiasm, zeal, trust, and challenge, and does not leave any room for ego.

Q:  Gurudev, when we chant a mantra continuously, will that mantra effect our body and life ?

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Definitely! But we should not keep chanting continuously, this is not correct. Do you keep bathing continuously? When you chant the mantra for some time, your mind will become stronger. That is why it called mantra. We can do it for 20 - 30 min. If you keep doing it continuously, your intellect will become dull. We should not do it too much. If you stay a lot in water, you will become a fish (laughter). That is why it is referred as mantra-snaan (bath).

If someone keeps listening to music, his intellect will stop working. Similarly, someone who keeps doing math and never listens to music, his personality will also be unbalanced. These things are there to balance our left brain and right brain. We should look it from a scientific perspective. From a scientific perspective, we should listen to music for some time, we engage in some discussions for some time, and we should think for some time. Afterwards, you will experience an all-round development.

Q:  Sometimes our elder in our homes asks us to do wrong things. How should we say no to them?

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Respecting elders does not mean that if elders tell you to do something wrong or ask you to steal something, then you do it. You should say no to it. Just say sorry to them and tell them that you can’t do any such wrong tasks.

When you say, “I can't do it”, they will not force you. You should keep your energy in good work and not invest in wrong things. If you involve in a wrong doing, you will not be able to sleep peacefully.

"In the history of the universe, there has been nobody like you and to the infinity of time to come, there will be no one like you. You are original. You are rare. You are unique. Celebrate your uniqueness."

Re - discover Your Fascinating Presence

Have you observed when a child enters a room everyone in the room just gets attracted by the child's mere presence? The child doesn't have to make any effort. It all happens naturally. We communicate more by our presence than by our words. But, as we grow up, somehow we miss taking care of this sublime aspect of our lives. Our presence weakens as innumerable impressions of our past experiences accumulate and clog our mind.

How do we restore that child-like freshness, friendliness and naturalness in our lives? This is possible through simple yet powerful breathing techniques like Sudarshan Kriya. The techniques help cleanse different layers of our existence, right from our body to the subtle layers of our self from stress and past experiences restoring our charm and presence.

How Soon Do You Want Success?

Everyone wants to be successful in life. But, is success just having a big bank balance and a luxurious living? One may have a big bank balance; but, if the body gets sick, one cannot enjoy what one has. Many times, people spend half their health to gain wealth and spend half their wealth to gain back the health. Is this really success?

Imagine a state when your problems stop being problems, you get the strength to willingly face them with a smile and turn them into opportunities. Don't you think this is a sign of a successful person? This is what the Art of Living techniques can get you to.

The earlier you explore yourself with yoga, pranayam and meditation, the faster you get to accelerate success in all aspects of your life.

Get An Unshakable Personality From Within

Knowledge & self-help books are easily available everywhere — but what books cannot transmit is the personal charisma, the presence, the friendly and warm atmosphere a person carries along with him/her. The ancient practices of pranayam and meditation taught in the Art of Living programs enhance this charisma by uplifting the spirit, intuition, creativity, enthusiasm, intelligence and strengthens your personality.

You get the confidence and the ability to achieve whatever you want in life with an unshakable smile. This also makes an impact on people around you to look up to you as an inspiration.

GET ALL YOUR ANSWERS WITH GURUJI

Q:  Which was the first language and how did all languages begin? Tell us the story of languages Gurudev.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:

Go to goolge and search. Do you know, there are also so many linguistic socities! They will also tell you, but you don’t have to believe all their theories as gospel truth. What we do know is that Sanskrit is the mother of all Indian languages, and in fact English also has its roots in Sanskrit. Today, in England and Germany, there are many schools and Universities that are teaching Sanskrit to children.

Which language came first, is not important. Whatever language you want to learn, you should learn. But there is something beyond languages, learn that. Non verbal communication. Your vibes convey what you really want to convey. You can communicate from your sixth sense. The intuition process that our kids are doing is amazing knowledge. They can sit here and tell you what is happening in the next room. They have this ability. So move onto the non verbal communication level. That is real meditation.
